Johanna & Martin ~ Houchins Wedding Venue
This wasn’t the first time I’d met Johanna & Martin as the Groom-to-be had actually brought his Bride an Equestrian Gift Voucher a few years back (before they were engaged), so it was lovely to see them both again and capture more magic on camera for them to treasure!
I’ve been waiting for a chance to photograph at Houchins for quite some time, as it is the type of wedding venue I love shooting at! Light, airy, surrounded by countryside and beautiful gardens with a totally relaxed vibe! When Johanna got in touch and told me about what they had planned I was so excited, especially about the famous straw stack which is a popular spot for photographers & their couples to head too during wedding portraits.
As wedding venues have it, Houchins has it all! Their Bridal area is the complete top floor of their Farmhouse meaning plenty of space for the Bride and her entourage without anyone falling over anyone else – brilliant if you have a lot of Bridesmaids or family getting ready with you on the morning of your wedding. Martin was getting ready at the couples house, until he ran into some errr… difficulty with his trousers. Luckily sewing kit and Mum on site, he headed to the venue with his lads to finalise his prep and have his trousers put back to right (no one told Johanna this at the time as she would’ve ‘flapped’!) 😉
As far as weather reports go… it couldn’t have been any more bizarre! We started with sun, we then had drizzle, luckily the ceremony was under a canopy outside as during one of the readings the rain was coming down so hard that people were struggling to hear! Jason (Houchins) had his entourage ready with umbrellas but then the sun decided to come back out just as the new Mr & Mrs headed back down the aisle to enjoy the afternoons celebrations! You’ll probably see from the photos but all afternoon we had sun, rain, sun, rain… Jason (Houchins) even had to drive out to rescue Johanna & Martin during the couples portrait session as it was bright beautiful sunshine one minute, then full-pelt rain!! Umbrellas are always a must, even during Summer weddings!
Luckily we got chauffeured out to the straw stack for a few portraits again after the meal & speeches just in case the rain decided to make an appearance again…this time it didn’t and we had some great fun getting creative! Yay!
